Hi…

It’s Michelle. It’s one hundred million degrees outside, so I’m stuck in the AC typing our first blog…

Kay and I had a great time playing the shows in Boston last week. For me, it was a total trip getting to see the rock star version of Kay in action. And it was totally trippy seeing some of the audience at TT’s singing along to the Dilettantes songs. They know the words!!! That’s awesome. I got shit for smiling too much (“there’s no smiling in rock and roll”), but believe, I have no idea I’m doing it. And if I try NOT to smile, I just end up smirking. Whatever. You’ll just have to deal. Stacy and some of the other message board peeps were very kind about it, actually. And I know I started out with several strikes against me because of the whole being a Yankees fan thing. So thanks for the graciousness… really.

And speaking of the Yankees, singing the anthem before the Yanks/Sox game at Fenway was one of those great once-in-a-lifetime experiences. I got heckled by some Boston fans who recognized me as one of the anthem singers when they spotted me standing as Randy Johnson was being taken out of the game. They said they were very conflicted – while they were outraged by a NY fan in their midst, they had really liked the singing. So the heckling was pretty half-hearted and they apologized half the time.

So now that we’re back in LA, Kay and I are figuring out what to do next. We both received advance copies of Fefe Dobson’s new record this morning… the song we wrote with her, “Hole,” came out great. So we’re into the whole writing with other people thing… we’ll probably do that for a while. There’s s good list of suggestions for possible collaborations going on the message board. Someone suggested Jojo… which I think would be GREAT!!!!

And we’d like to play a real rock show… we were pretty bummed with the acoustic guitar, no bass or drums thing we were doing at Hotel Cafe. We just need to figure out when…

So y’all stay cool and we’ll be in touch!
About 6 months ago, the hints turned to full-on mockery, and we conceded that we needed our own Dilettantes website. Unfortunately, the domain name for thedilettantes.com was taken (You should check it out though) and that set us back a while. then we started creating a TV show and then we were writing for some really cute young rock stars and then we were building up our residency at Hotel Cafe, etc…

Next thing we know, a rocket scientist (with the appropriate moniker, Confusion) is learning more than he ever wanted to know about international shipping, a six year old is designing the CD artwork in crayon and our poor little ibooks are working overtime burning EP after EP. We’re wondering how things got so out of hand…

So this is our first official step in the right direction… we’re turning pro…

Our EP’s are still handmade, our families are still doing the manual labor and Confusion is still looking after the overseas postings, but the WEBSITE IS HERE!!!!
